Feasibility study

Teesta Barrage Canal Top Solar Project

Project Details

The Government has adopted a Master Plan and planned to generate 24,000 MW by 2021 and 40,000 MW by 2030 and 60,000 MW by 2041. North-West Power Generation Co. Ltd. (NWPGCL), among other generation entities of Bangladesh, has been entrusted to achieve this target of the Government.
North West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL/ the Developer) intends to develop approximately 18 MW (AC) Grid Tied Canal Top Solar PV Power Plant (the Project) on the banks of the canal of Teesta Barrage Irrigation Project (TBIP) from the Dimla Upazilla via Jaldhaka Upazilla to Kishoreganj Upazilla of Nilphamari district in the Rangpur division of Bangladesh. The initial location of the proposed project: 26°9’20.42”N, 89° 2’9.43”E to 25°54’13.68”N, 89° 2’3.88”E. The nearest substation is in Jaldhaka PGCB 132/33KV Substation, which is 15km from Dalia Bridge, located at 26° 2’33.27” N, 88°59’37.44” E.
Project life is considered to be 20 years. The project cost will include all the cost involved in realizing the grid connected solar PV power plant. State of the art equipment is considered for the project. PVSyst simulation software has been run for determining the annual yield. The meteorological data for the simulation has taken from the NASA surface meteorology website. The tilt of the panels is considered to be the same of the local latitude with facing towards the equator. For the assessment of the project feasibility, the Consultant proposes a two-step approach where technical and economically pprox.g solutions are gradually refined. This allows keeping costs at reasonable levels at project start. The project should commence with a high-level review followed by a detailed feasibility phase including (as required) expert studies of different disciplines.
In the first phase, the EQMS Consulting Limited will conduct a high-level review of all available (public) data to a) narrow down the range of potential technical solutions and b) to identify any potential risk to the project’s success. This will be a desktop-study with interaction with local stakeholders to obtain specific information, which is not publicly available (as require).
