project up-scaling of ‘Low-Income Community Housing Support Project

Project Details

The Government of Bangladesh has undertaken the implementation of the Low-Income Community Housing Support Project (LICHSP) during past 5 years which is co-financed by the WB and GoB. LICHSP is a pilot project to improve urban settlements involving the community of the settlements selected under the project. The project is expected to contribute positive impacts on urban livelihood improvement for the low-income population in the selected settlements.  The town selection process for pilot phase of the LICHSP project was conducted in the preparatory phase of the project in 2014. This provided a shortlist of 10 cities which was adopted by the National Housing Authority (NHA) and WB.  For the scaling-up exercise it was decided that the five top scoring cities plus Narayanganj (Narayanganj was dropped out from the pilot phase) would be selected, which are: Khulna City Corporation, Khulna Division, Rajshahi City Corporation, Rajshahi Division, Kushtia Paurashava, Khulna Division, Dinajpur Paurashava, Rangpur Division, Barishal City Corporation, Barishal Division and Narayanganj City Corporation, Dhaka division. Scale-up project activities are planned in 6 settlements in each city, which together with Narayanganj, makes 6x6=36 potential low-income settlements for participation in the second phase of the project.
